  • I would post about my freshman year at Davis, but because I'm lazy, you'll just have to ask me about it.  I don't even really know what I want to talk about.

I guess it's been a rough couple of weeks of allowing God to mold to me to who He wants me to be.  There have been times where it has hurt, but also times where it is such a joy to be in the fellowship of brothers and sisters.  Learning to let go of particular parts of my life has been a huge struggle for me.  Just when I feel like I'm learning to let go, my hand suddenly grips onto it tighter.

What is it in me that hangs of for so long?
Why do I fight the tears that come?
I work so hard to keep in control when
All that I want is to to let go

Here I am, as gold to the fire
I will surrender to Your hand
To this place, Lord I have come
    Ready for Your touch

It's all for You, it's all for You
I'm letting go, I'm letting go

  • It's hard to believe there's only one more quarter of school, and then Summer!  The past ten weeks seem to have gone by pretty fast.  My freshman year at Davis will be over in just over 10 weeks!  It's pretty crazy.  I would talk about how I enjoyed being a freshman, but I think I'll save that for the end of the school year post.  Stay tuned!

So recently, there was a bomb threat in Tercero, which just so happens to be the area in which I currently live.  That night, I had my Crusade bible study in Segundo from 8-10, so by the time I got back, I had no clue what was going on!  I was getting phone calls, text messages, and IM's asking me if I was okay and if I needed anything.  It was definitely uplifting and encouraging to have people take the time to ask me if I was okay.  Apparently, some guy in one of the dorms had the materials to form a bomb and the police found out.  Most of the buildings (except mine and two other dorms) were evacuated around 10 PM.  They all entered the DC (for free) and got free cookies and churros while the bomb squad went through each of their dorms.  I heard that there was a possibility that Leach would be evacuated later on in the night, so I packed my things and biked all the way over to Cuarto where I spent the night with Neiman and Arend.  Dorm buildings A-F were not let back into their dorms until 11:30 AM the next day and were forced to spend the night in the DC or Tercero main lounge.  What an adventure!!

So currently I'm on Spring Break and I'm totally loving it.  Meeting up with friends has been such a rewarding time being able to hear how God has been working in all their lives.  Staying up until 8 AM talking and setting aside time to meet up and pray for each other has been such a rewarding experience.  I'm now seeing the very guys I've grown up with as brothers in addition to friends.  I really feel that God is using these guys to build me as well as the other guys up.  I am so excited to see where God will be leading us.

  • I love home.  Home can be such a relaxing place to be, unless you have three midterms the upcoming week. =(  It was so exciting being on amtrak returning home and even more exciting to step back on to the CCS campus where I've grown up the past 18 years of my life.  Strolling the hallways and seeing familiar faces never fails to bring a smile to my face.  It was great being able to catch up with friends and also see the afterschool kids!  I really enjoy being around the kids and playing them.

So for Valentines Day, I had a hot date.  Actually, I had two hot dates.

Collin and Ben Wilson!  After getting some Subway, we biked over to Ben and Jerry's to use our free scoop ice cream coupon.  We ate ice cream and ate a huge amount of candy and chocolate.

Last week was Epic Conference in Santa Clara.  Having all the Epics one the West coast come out to this conference was definitely a factor in my decision to attend.  It was such a great experience and I'm glad I decided to go.  It was awesome meeting other people from different colleges and really seeing how God has been working through them and Epic.  On Sunday, everyone went out to different malls and went sharing with strangers in the mall.  I was paired up with Nova and even though she may disagree, she was totally an encouragement to me.  Although it was her first time sharing, she decided to share with a lady by herself and had me stay off to the side and pray.  I was totally floored by this.  I know I would have never said that if it had been my first time.  I wouldn't even say it now!  If you want stories about sharing, ask me!  The Lord does not want missionaries, He wants worshipers.

Here's your post Jenna (BTW, you still owe me a post Jenna!): Talk about worship.
Worship has always played a huge role in my spiritual life.  I starting off in seventh grade and teaching myself the chords and learning how to strum from Eric and Hillary.  Benny actually got me started in guitar when he told me one Sunday night that I should learn how to play drums or guitar.  He said if I started then, I could be as good as John or James Quen (and no, I'm no where even close to being as good as them!).  When I started to play guitar for YBC, my motives were totally wrong.  I wanted the glory, honor, and praise.  Looking back, slowly but surely God tweaked my heart.  As I began to lead worship in eighth grade in Youth Service/HOUSE, the motive became more of "I do it just because I've been doing" and my reputation and what others thought of me played a huge role.  I wanted to be seen as a strong Christian and a Godly guy (and I still do, although I continue to remind myself theres only one person I need to being aiming for).  When I first entered LC,  I was practically immediately pulled into leading worship.  One night, I messed up so much that I went home and cried.  I felt pretty down about it.  When I became an upperclassman, I was doing worship almost every week and was desperately wanting a break.  Leading worship started to become a burden and I didn't enjoy playing.  I recall one night where I was saying to myself that I did not want to be playing the entire time we had worship.  I constantly asked myself why I led worship.  I didn't care as much about how people thought of my playing.  Upon people stepping up to lead worship, I immediately stepped down.  Taking a hiatus from leading worship, I was able to not worry about planning worship sets.  A couple of months later, I began to miss leading worship.  As I stepped back up, I was glad to see Collin also step up and lead worship.  Upon leaving LC and entering H20, I was once again pulled into worship.  The second H20 meeting that I was able to attend, I played in a praise night and also did worship for many numerous times after that.  Playing the in the praise night got me very excited to play because I was able to play with so many talented people and feed off their talent and learn things.  Upon entering college, my short hiatus began as I hopped around fellowships, trying to decide where to attend.  I really missed leading worship during this short break.  Part of the reason I joined Epic was because there was a huge need in worship leaders as Kevin Hua and Sam Park were the only leaders.  With Sam graduating after fall quarter and Kevin being a senior, there would be a huge need for someone to step up.  Second quarter I joined Epic and immediately got involved with leading worship with Adrian(also a senior).  For some reason, I became so excited to plan my sets and enjoyed putting together the powerpoint slides and chord sheets for the worship team.  I love my freshman class!  We practically make up the entire worship team! I'm so excited to serve with them over the next three years.  I lead worship because I enjoy using my spiritual gift of worship and leading others to meet God and watching them praise Him (and theres a hint of pride in myself and my reputation.  Hopefully God will erase that, but it's definitely hard to deal with!).

Allow me to end this post with two pictures from the car ride back from Epic Conference.  Our car was the best!

  • Well, here comes another post!

This past week has been pretty busy with school.  Yesterday I had two midterms for my two hardest classes back to back.  That was extremely tiring and mind draining.  So, Cameo wants me to post about dorm life and everything.  Everything is a wee little too general.  Sorry Cameo, you'll have to be more specific.  But anyways, dorm life is just okay.  Since I live in Leach, all the rooms here are singles and some if not many of the students here are non social.  For instance, on the first week of school, Leach had a meeting in which we meet some of the people.  We were told to find two things we had in common.  The first guy I talked to immediately said, "We're both guys and we have black hair."  Upon finishing the statement, he didn't say anything else.  Although I live in a suite with four other guys, I don't know them at all.  Unlike normal suites which have a common room, the only common room we have is the bathroom.  I definitely hope that I can get to know them better and maybe have lunch with them individually  occasionally.  Our Leach fire alarm has gone off eight times this school year.  Two were during the first week of school and one of our last ones happened at 11:45 PM.  It's always frustrating to have to leave my room and go outside (sometimes in the wind and rain).  It's pretty nice having my own room.  I can stay up late and not have to worry about keeping my roommate up or vise versa.  It's also nice having DC food everyday.  Well, having it everyday can get pretty repetitive although it is very nice not having to cook.  I really need to start learning to cook.  I wanted to start cooking last year, but this summer I think I'll really start doing it, especially since I'll have a huge motivation of cooking on my own next year.

And for Jenna, the yellow shirt we were wearing in the previous post was the free UC Davis shirt we got for attending a basketball game.  I love free shirts!  Heres what it looks like:

I'm sorry, I haven't taken another picture yet, but allow me to steal a picture from facebook and introduce some of you to one my friends here at Davis.

BEN WILSON!  I love this guy.  The first couple of weeks, I thought he was a Junior until I saw his facebook and found out he was a Freshman!  Oh the wonders of what you can learn through Facebook.  It's been great getting to know this stud throughout the year.

    More friends to come!

    Byron, your post is next.

  • My freshman year in college is already half over!  I know I say this every year, especially after sport seasons, but time goes by fast!  This past Friday I played some volleyball with some friends.  We started playing some other people at the arc...who turned out to play for the Davis club team!  I haven't played in such an intense game since CBM camp.  It was great being able to dig some of their crazy hits as well as block them.  I'm slowly getting back into running.  I've been running about three times a week although I haven't been running more than 3 miles at a time.

This quarter has been so much more hectic than last quarter.  I've been loaded up with tons of homework.  Last quarter I only had one homework assignment a week.  This quarter I practically have one assignment day each day.  On Tuesdays, I have class from 7:30 AM until 3:00 in the afternoon.  I don't have any breaks unless I get out of chem lab early and squeeze in lunch.  At least on Mondays and Fridays I only have class from 2-3 in the afternoon.

Two weeks ago I used an umbrella for the first time since I can't bike with my guitar and was forced to walk my guitar to Epic.  For some reason, it felt awkward to hold an umbrella.  I guess it's because I haven't used one in such a long time.  Biking in the rain is never any fun.  I dislike it when my jeans get soaked and my hands feel like they're frozen.

Next year I'll have a roommate.  Allow me to introduce all of you to him.

That's right, his name is Neiman Paw.  I'm looking forward to rooming with this boy.  I'll be living with some guys who go to Intervarsity.  Next year should be an interesting year!

I'm in the process of taking more pictures here at Davis.  Since September, I've taken one picture!

And because Grace wants me to xanga about my girlfriend.  Here she is.

I don't really know her name, but I know she's my girlfriend.  She's got a sexy body and a beautiful voice.  I must admit, I haven't been spending as much time as I would like with her.  She likes to sleep in her bed which so happens to be underneath my bed.

There you go Grace. =)  On a more serious note, I'm sorry...no real girlfriend. =(

Anything else you loyal xanga readers want me to write about?
